Vessel
My favorite band, Twenty One Pilots, decided to use their grandfathers once for an album cover (Vessel) as a nod to the themes contained in the album. This inspired me to shoot a similar project, in which I asked four of my grandparents to model for me together. I had to plan the shoot carefully, and I finally decided to set up the shoot at the assisted living facility where my Nana and Pop-pop (on the left in each photo) lived. I had no idea how everything would turn out, but in the end it went wonderfully and we made some great memories that day. I finished this project by making prints using the classic Van Dyke Brown darkroom process, which added an element of variability and experimentation that I enjoyed. Although I do not shoot many portraits, this is the kind of project I would shoot if I did, and I may decide to pursue this more in the future.
