2020-21

By May of 2020 I had earned my BFA in Photography, along with a lot of burnout! The combined effects of crafting my senior thesis, finishing out college, and then the pandemic upending the world led to me slowing down considerably in my work. While I still had the desire to take photos, and indeed had plenty of time to shoot, my feelings of creative exhaustion and burnout kept me from taking photos like I had in the years prior. This, however, became a good thing for me, as it allowed me to refocus on my next area of growth as a photographer: shooting with true intention. As I began to overcome my burnout in the fall, I found myself spending more time composing each shot, worried less about finishing rolls and more about getting the best image from a scene. These goals carried into 2021, and influenced my decision to try out medium and large formats throughout the year, pushing myself technically and creatively. This was another transitionary moment for my style, and I remain proud of the contemplative images from these years!
